- Professor Ada Yonath, from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot and 2009 Nobel prizewinner for Chemistry, was a keynote speaker at this year’s Lorne Proteins meeting. She shared the prize with two other protein crystallographers, Venkatraman Ramakrishan (MRC Cambridge) and Thomas Steitz (Yale University), for establishing atomic resolution images of the ribosome. Tom was a recent speaker at Lorne Proteins. Ada is the first woman to become a chemistry laureate since 1964.
- We also celebrated the award of a 2009 Nobel Prize in Medicine to another female scientist, Liz Blackburn who was our 2006 Leach Lecturer.
