The first round of travel grants have been allocated and some 45 have been awarded. There will be a second round of awards considered in 6 weeks time when we are able to review the amount of money available. Your application remains in consideration for that round. Please be aware there were over 300 applications for the limited funds and not all will be successful.
The committee will have a number of travel grants available for delegates (final number subject to support levels from sponsors).
Please note, ASP student members should not apply for these ICOPA awards. The ASP will offer travel awards to ASP student members who are registered at an Australian University, as we have done for past ASP Conferences; application details will be posted on the ASP website early in 2010. http://www.parasite.org.au/
Other factors taken into account by the Travel Grant committee: 1. We will offer limited number of travel grants to the same institution - a second grant to the same institution may be offered but it must be matched by a full paying delegate. 2. Preference will be given to applicants that result in an increase in the number of countries represented at ICOPA. National Parasitology Societies can support applications by their members with a letter of reference to the Award Committee. 3. Preference will be given to practising scientists from developing countries.
Acceptance process: Once an acceptance notice is received, candidates must: 1. Immediately register and book accommodation (though payment at the time is not essential). 2. Obtain a visa to visit Australia for the conference no later than four weeks before the conference or risk having their offer withdrawn and passed to a waitlist.
The organisers will: 1. Publish successful applicant names on our web page. 2. Distribute the travel grant as direct debit or cash on arrival at the conference and collection of your papers from the registration desk. The money can only be claimed in advance of the meeting if used to pay your registration and accommodation booked with the secretariat.
