Something in the Water in the West Print
A former Government Minister who sang, a Mayor who was 'Patricia the 'delicia,' karoke after midninght - is there something in the water in the West?

The 160 delegates who journeyed to Mandurah for the 2008 ASL Congress enjoyed a stimulating and interesting Congress program around the theme "Keeping aquatic ecosystems on Australia's water management agenda", as well as some local flavour provided by the city's celebraties.

Perhaps relieved of the pressures of office, David Templeman MP, Member for Mandurah and former Minister for the Environment, livened up the Congress opening session with a tuneful broadway number from his time as a regular on the stage at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.

Not to be outdone, Mayor Paddy Creavy, suggested her rendition of 'Patricia the delicia' would be just as entertaining, but possibly not suited to family viewing! In her welcoming speech to the Congress dinner, Cr Creavy was equally as passionate (if realistic) about regulating some of the canal developments around Mandurah that are impacting on ecologies within the area.

Taking the Mayor's remarks to heart, Clint McCullogh performed a heartfelt late night rendition of "I'm too sexy for my...", no doubt spurred on by some of his Edith Cowan University Colleagues, to take out the infamous Door Prize.

The Apple Prize, awarded by student delegates for their favourite 'adult' presentation went to Jane Brim-Box for successfully putting water on the desert agenda in her presentation, backed up by successfully lobbying to hold the 2009 Congress in Alice Springs, NT.

With thanks to all those who took part in this year's ASL Congress.
