Since the inception of Andrology Australia in 2000, the foundations of an evidence-based men’s health program in community and professional education have been established. A broad range of activities has been undertaken with the support of many collaborators, and major achievements seen in men’s health education at both the community and professional levels. While much has been achieved in men’s health, still much has to be done. Acknowledging that there are no ‘quick fixes’, recognizing that problems exist is the first step in being able to identify solutions. With the success of previous forums, Andrology Australia is again convening a weekend forum with Affiliates and other associates who have worked with the program in the past. The theme of this year’s forum is ‘Tackling the Inequities of Men’s Health’ to provide an overview of research, policy and practice to address the disparities that exist between different groups of men. A GP workshop is also being planned to consider ways for GPs to better engage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men in the primary health care system. The intention of the Forum is to update Andrology Australia associates and other interested participants, on research, policy and practice initiatives that aim to reduce the inequities of men's health Within the context of the primary objective, the meeting has three subsidiary objectives; 1. To describe current knowledge in regard to the inequities of men's health across research, policy and practice domains 2. To identify gaps in knowledge 3. To facilitate the development of effective research, policy and practice strategies in response to the identified gaps The Forum is being held at the Swiss-Grand Resort & Spa in Bondi, situated a few kilometres from the centre of Sydney and overlooking Australia’s most iconic beach. We welcome your attendance at the Forum and in the process confirm your commitment and vision to better health for men in Australia. Prof Rob McLachlan Director, Andrology Australia |
