 University of Glasgow, UK Biography Prof Cassidy qualified MBChB from Glasgow University in 1981. He then trained in Medical Oncology between Glasgow and Edinburgh- his initial academic appointment was as Lecturer at Edinburgh University. He then took up an appointment as a CRC Pharmacology training fellow gaining both MSC and MD degrees during this 3 year period of laboratory based research. He developed a longstanding interest in drug delivery systems and in the molecular pharmacology of colorectal cancer. He also initiated the first specific GI Oncology service at the Beatson Oncology centre in Glasgow. He then took up a CRUK Senior Lectureship in Glasgow for two years before moving to become the first Professor of Oncology at Aberdeen University. In the next 8 years he established a phase 1 practice, a large clinical trials based GI practice and a full clinical and academic training program. In 2002 he returned to Glasgow as Professor of Oncology and is now Head of GU Cancer Division, lead clinician for the Scottish Cancer Research Network, Director of the CRUK trials unit and Head of CACTUS ( Cancer Clinical Trials Unit for Scotland). He has published over 200 peer reviewed papers, 5 books and is on the Editorial Boards of several International oncology journals. He served as clinical editor of BJC for 5 years and is on several grants review and award committees including CRUK Biological Sciences Committee.
